Rules
Klondike is played with one 52-card deck. Seven columns are dealt from left to right with one to seven cards; the top card of each column is face up. The other 24 cards form the stock.
The goal is to move every card to the four foundations, one per suit, from Ace up to King.
In draw 3 you turn three cards at a time from the stock onto the waste. Only the top card of the waste can be played; playing it frees the one below.
- Build columns down in alternating colors: a red 6 goes on a black 7, a black Jack on a red Queen.
- You can move a face-up run together, as long as it is in order and alternates colors.
- Only a King, or a run that starts with a King, can go into an empty column.
- When a face-down card is uncovered, it turns face up on its own.
- Foundations build up by suit. You can move the top foundation card back to a column if you need it there.
- When the stock is empty, tap it to turn the waste back over. You can go through the stock as many times as you like.
How to play here
Drag a card or a run, or tap it to send it where it fits. Tap the stock to turn the next three cards; the waste shows them fanned, the top one on the right.
Undo takes back as many moves as you like. Hint shows a move from a winning line when our solver finds one in time. Finish plays the rest once every card is face up.
Draw 3 strategy
The cards you can reach in the stock depend on how many you have taken from the waste. Playing one waste card shifts every later group of three, so a card that was out of reach may come up on the next pass.
- Before you turn the stock over, count: which cards will be on top of each group of three next time?
- Sometimes it pays to play a waste card only to change which cards come up next.
- Uncover face-down cards in the columns first; the stock will still be there.
- Use Undo to try a different order when a pass gives you nothing.
Questions
Why is draw 3 harder?
Two of every three cards you turn are covered, so you can't play them on this pass. You need the right card on top at the right time, which takes planning across passes.
Is every draw 3 deal winnable here?
Yes. Each deal in the list was won by our solver in draw 3, knowing where every card is. Some need careful play with the stock.
Are some deals easier than others?
Yes. We grade every deal by how hard it is to finish: card deals by how often a simple, casual way of playing wins them, Minesweeper boards by how many tricky steps they need. New players start with easy deals; two wins in a row bring harder ones, two unfinished deals easier ones. You can also pick a level yourself under Settings.
