Rules

Spider is played with two decks, 104 cards. Ten columns are dealt: the first four get six cards, the other six get five, and the top card of each is face up. The other 50 cards stay in the stock, five deals of ten.

The goal is to build eight full runs from King down to Ace in one suit. A finished run leaves the table on its own.

In the 4-suit game there are two of each suit: spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.

  • Any card can go on a card one rank higher, whatever the suit: a 7 on any 8.
  • Only a run in one suit, in order, moves together. A mixed-suit run has to be taken apart card by card.
  • Any card or run can go into an empty column.
  • When a face-down card is uncovered, it turns face up on its own.
  • Tap the stock to deal one card onto every column. You can't deal while a column is empty.

How to play here

Drag a card or a run, or tap it: a tap moves it to where it fits, onto a card of the same suit first. Tap the stock to deal.

Undo takes back as many moves as you like, deals included. Hint shows a move from a line our solver still wins, when it finds one in time. Once the stock is empty and every card is face up, Finish plays out the rest.

Tips for 4 suits

With four suits most builds start out mixed. Empty columns and careful order matter more than in any other Spider; use Undo freely to try lines.

  • Uncover face-down cards first; information is worth more than tidy columns.
  • Value in-suit builds much more than mixed ones: only they move as a group.
  • An empty column lets you move a run of one suit off a mixed column and sort the rest.
  • Before each deal, try to have no short columns with low cards on top: the deal will bury them.

Questions

Can 4-suit Spider really be won?

Many shuffles can, with perfect play. On this site every deal can: our solver won each one before it went into the list, knowing where every card is. Expect to use Undo.

Why does the hint sometimes take a moment?

For a hint the solver searches for a line that still wins from your position. In 4-suit Spider that takes more work; if it runs out of time it shows a useful move instead and says so.

Are some deals easier than others?

Yes. We grade every deal by how hard it is to finish: card deals by how often a simple, casual way of playing wins them, Minesweeper boards by how many tricky steps they need. New players start with easy deals; two wins in a row bring harder ones, two unfinished deals easier ones. You can also pick a level yourself under Settings.

Is Cards & Puzzles free?

Yes. Cards & Puzzles is free to use and needs no account.
