Rules

Spider is played with two decks, 104 cards. Ten columns are dealt: the first four get six cards, the other six get five, and the top card of each is face up. The other 50 cards stay in the stock, five deals of ten.

The goal is to build eight full runs from King down to Ace in one suit. A finished run leaves the table on its own.

In the 1-suit game all 104 cards are spades, so every run you build is already in suit.

  • Any card can go on a card one rank higher, whatever the suit: a 7 on any 8.
  • Only a run in one suit, in order, moves together. A mixed-suit run has to be taken apart card by card.
  • Any card or run can go into an empty column.
  • When a face-down card is uncovered, it turns face up on its own.
  • Tap the stock to deal one card onto every column. You can't deal while a column is empty.

How to play here

Drag a card or a run, or tap it: a tap moves it to where it fits, onto a card of the same suit first. Tap the stock to deal.

Undo takes back as many moves as you like, deals included. Hint shows a move from a line our solver still wins, when it finds one in time. Once the stock is empty and every card is face up, Finish plays out the rest.

Tips for 1 suit

With one suit, any card on a card one rank higher is a real build, so the game is about uncovering cards and keeping columns free.

  • Turn over face-down cards before you deal. Each deal covers every column with one more card.
  • An empty column is your most useful space: use it to sort a long column, then win it back.
  • Before dealing, put high cards where low ones can follow.
  • Finish runs when you can; they leave the table and give you room.

Questions

Which Spider should I start with?

One suit. It teaches the moves without suit problems. Two suits adds planning, and four suits is the hardest Spider.

Is every Spider deal winnable here?

Yes. Our solver won each deal before it was added, knowing where every card is. It doesn't mean a deal is easy, only that a way through exists.

Are some deals easier than others?

Yes. We grade every deal by how hard it is to finish: card deals by how often a simple, casual way of playing wins them, Minesweeper boards by how many tricky steps they need. New players start with easy deals; two wins in a row bring harder ones, two unfinished deals easier ones. You can also pick a level yourself under Settings.

Is Cards & Puzzles free?

Yes. Cards & Puzzles is free to use and needs no account.

Do I need an account?

No. Open a game and play.

Where are my stats and saved games kept?

In your browser, on this device. Your stats stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.

Can I play offline?

Yes. After your first visit the games work without a connection, including on a phone.

What is the daily deal?

One deal per game each day, the same for everyone. Your stats show which daily deals you have won.
